What can I do as a partner during childbirth? That was the question that kept me busy during pregnancy.

As a partner you seem to be able to play a very important but also a fun role during the delivery, which we learned very well during the session with Marieke. This session [Refresher course] is highly recommended to do “as a team” together a few weeks before the birth. So you can hopefully experience the arrival of the little one together in a beautiful and less stressful way.

I didn’t feel like I could contribute that much beforehand, but it really opened my eyes. I can’t wait until the day the little one arrives and I can also do my bit!

One-Day Birth Journey

We followed the One-day Birth Journey. Upon entering, Marieke immediately put us at ease and a relaxed atmosphere was created.

In four hours Marieke took us into the different aspects of the birth: the physical aspects, the course and usefulness of the different phases, the role of the partner and practical tips and tools. Because Marieke has experience as a midwife, you notice that she has already seen everything and is not surprised by any question.

Because we are expecting our first child, we found it difficult to imagine the birth. On TV you often see screaming and panicking women, so you can become afraid for the birth. But after the well-told and complete story of Marieke, it was clear to us: giving birth is a natural process, in which mother, child and partner can work together. This has ensured that we go into labor with confidence and calmness.

We are looking forward to meeting our baby!

The HypnoBirthing class with Marieke was fenomenal.

We enjoyed every session with her. She is very professional and delivers valuable information for both mother and father to be. I feel much more prepared, confident and ready for the delivery of our child. Marieke takes the time to answer all of your pressing questions and gives useful tips, tools and tricks to use throughout your pregnancy and during delivery.

This class is also interesting for partners, as she prepares them to have an active role in the birth of the child. Marieke has a beautiful personality and fills the room with her knowledge and genuinely kind smile. I would absolutely recommend Marieke and the HypnoBirthing class!

One-Day Birth Journey

We are thrilled to have followed this One Day Birth Journey.

Marieke exudes enormous passion and expertise. In addition, we have never had so much detailed information about the delivery.

I found everything clear, clearly explained! The tools she gives are simple, powerful and give a lot of inspiration and peace to face the delivery. Not only for the woman, but also for the partner’s role is a lot of attention.

What a great morning

Together with my husband we decided to start a family. I knew in advance that it would probably be difficult because I had already passed 40. Soon we ended up in the IVF medical mill and that was downright heavy. It took us 2,5 years and many disappointments before I finally became pregnant! The pregnancy went well and I couldn’t wait to finally have our desired family.

After the birth it soon became clear that the pink cloud was not that pink at all .. how heavy it was. Our daughter was very restless, cried non-stop, did not sleep and suffered from reflux. I hadn’t really imagined this beforehand. Maybe a little naive but then again, what do you really know in advance? Suddenly you have a baby and you expect that you will know and do it all. The reality was horrible and at a certain moment I didn’t feel like myself anymore. Sleep deprivation, distraught and hormones are not a good combination.. soon I could only cry and I was desperate.

Fortunately Marieke was there. She has visited us for half a day and has unleashed all her knowledge and skills. Because of her peace I became calm again (that was a while ago) and our daughter became calmer too. Marieke has given us tips on how to deal with our daughter in terms of nutrition, sleeping and carrying. But above all she has brought a lot of peace to our home! As a result, the dark cloud slowly changed back to a pink cloud.

I am very grateful to Marieke for her time and dedication, I was really at an end before her arrival and afterwards I saw that being a mother could also be fun. Marieke has been very important to me and I think that every young mother can benefit greatly from her knowledge and skills.

My wife and I decided we wanted to start a family. Everyone around us easily became pregnant and everything went well. With us everything went differently unfortunately, getting pregnant did not work the natural way and after a few visits to the hospital we had decided to start an IVF process. This was very difficult for both of us, perhaps even heavier for my wife. After all, she had to inject the hormones and adjust many things in her life. We entered the process in good spirits and after 2.5 years it was finally there, we were pregnant. We were so happy. The pregnancy went very well apart from some normal complaints.

After the birth of our beautiful daughter it took some time getting used to our new life, because it was hard. We wondered if this was normal. This turned out not to be so, we had a ‘worry child’ to name it. Our daughter cried non-stop, did not sleep and also had reflux. This has totally exhausted both of us and I have even ended up in the Sickness Benefits Act. What else could we do to make our daughter happy??

Nothing seemed to help and after some searching and asking around, we came to Marieke. What a relief to have someone in the house who understands exactly what kind of questions we have. Marieke took the time to listen to us and see how we did everything. With very practical tips and a good demonstration of how we could best help our daughter, things went better the next days. She has managed to turn our self-confidence, knowledge and behavior in a positive way in such a way that we could go for it again. To this day, she is still there for us. I would recommend any couple to talk to her, it is such a wonderfully infectious woman that you always learn something from it!

Marieke, thanks for everything!

The conversation with Marieke contributes to the fact that I’m looking forward to give birth and gave me the feeling I have tools that I can hold on to. We talked about my first delivery and what I missed in it. She immediately knew how to turn this into positive action with regard to the upcoming birth. Her positivity and enthusiasm ensure a lively conversation in which you also have plenty of room to think carefully about your wishes.

After the private session you have specific wishes on paper about what you would like with your own birth. She also explains very visual what happens inside your body during childbirth and how to access the inner ability to give birth in a natural way. And how you can influence that yourself.

Her background as an obstetrician (midwife) is very valuable. She knows what she is talking about and knows all types and sizes of childbirth. That makes her vision of how you can “steer” a birth and that it can be a pleasant experience to be credible.

The one-to-one attention is very nice and in one afternoon you’ll get all the information you need. It is in your own environment that makes you completely at ease. Marieke does not judge, is very open, honest and sincere, so you do not feel the threshold to ask or say something.

HypnoBirthing®

The birth of my first child did not go entirely as I had imagined. After 24 hours of contractions, contraction stimulation and remifentanil, I got stuck at 8 cm dilatation. Eventually my son came into the world with a caesarean section. The confidence in my own body and that I could also give birth vaginally to a second child was minimal. That is why I went looking for a pregnancy course that hopefully could give me more confidence in my own body and giving birth naturally.

That’s how I ended up taking Marieke’s HypnoBirthing course. The course started with a bit of explanation about the HypnoBirthing method and philosophy of natural birth. Each lesson contains beautiful videos of different births and we did different relaxation exercises that we could also practice at home using an mp3 file. I really enjoyed learning techniques for deep relaxation and learning about the anatomy and hormones of our body. There was plenty of room for the role of my partner, we were given tips for massage techniques and which postures you can take during the different stages of labour.

After this course I look at the birth with much more confidence. Especially the videos of the birth have contributed to this, because you see that a birth can also be very quiet and peaceful. Very different from deliveries that you sometimes see on television. Marieke’s explanation of anatomy and hormones has given me much more confidence, because I now understand that my body and the baby are made to give birth naturally and I know how this works.

The relaxation exercises and breathing exercises give me guidance during the contractions. It was nice to go through some postures too. Marieke also rents out the “CUB”, a kind of inflatable birth stool, to help to deal with the contractions in different positions. You can either sit on or hang over during contractions. I will definitely try this during my delivery!

Marieke is a very sweet and nice person and she has a very nice voice to listen to during the relaxation exercises. She is very skilled in her profession and very inspiring with her extensive knowledge and experience as a former obstetrician (midwife). I certainly thought this was an advantage when following this course. The course is therefore accessible to everyone. You can learn a lot from Marieke, so highly recommended!

We heard from HypnoBirthing through a friend. Hypnotherapy was (positively) known to me, but I did not know any hypno-like things related to childbirth. This is our second pregnancy and the birth of our son was a beautiful but certainly a stressful experience for me. When I thought of the upcoming birth this gave me some stress. I was not too busy with it and I just pushed it forward. I thought the birth would be something that we, but also what I, should endure.

Already during the first HypnoBirthing session a whole new world opened up for me. I learned a birth doesn’t have to be a heavy and annoying “thing”, but can also be beautiful, peaceful and pleasant. Totally different than all the films and Indian stories that you hear and see. After a few lessons, the picture of childbirth changed from something stressful and unpleasant to something that I was looking forward too and was very excited about. Going to meet our second child together with my wife, what’s not to love about that?

The relaxation exercises were pleasant for me and gave me a calm and confident feeling (while the thought of giving birth gave me restlessness). The birth videos also radiated this peace and confidence, so that you also look more calmly and confidently at your own birth. The explanations and stories in between give insights and actually sound so simple and logical. Of course a woman can give birth to a child. Yes of course mother and child are made for it. And if people in the middle of the jungle or in a car on the highway can manage on their own, is all the fuss, horns and bells in our western world really necessary? Or do we think it is necessary?

The HypnoBirthing course has put my whole thinking on childbirth in a much more positive light and has given me confidence in myself as a partner. I now know that I will be there for my wife when it comes down to it and I know how I can support her in maintaining her own confidence. Less stress and more self-assurance.

Whether you are a very spiritual person or analytic or practical. Hypnobirthing may suit every person. As long as you are open to a new sound, it can be a very valuable addition to the process of birth and birth itself.

Thank you, Marieke, for this great course!

We did the HypnoBirthing course just before my due date. The premise of HypnoBirthing is trust and that is how I started giving birth. It has confirmed that we can do this as a woman, with fine information that made me know better what to expect. The breathing techniques and tips were very pleasant and proved valuable during the birth. As far as I am concerned, it’s an added value to reflect with my partner on what is going to happen.

You can tell by everything that Marieke has passion and pleasure in guiding couples to the birth. She can use her knowledge as a midwife in a way that suits her completely. She also asked the right questions so that the information was in line with our personal situation.

Thanks to the HypnoBirthing course we can look back on a special birth.

My girlfriend Ilse came up with the idea to follow this course. It seemed very interesting to me, especially to prepare myself well for the birth and to be able to support my girlfriend well. I wanted to make myself useful and know what I could do to make it as comfortable as possible for her.

That’s how we started this course. Very fine guidance from Marieke. She taught me a lot about birth and about pre-birth relaxation.

In the beginning I found the story a bit floaty. I thought I was much too sober for this but that changed later when we started doing exercises and I noticed that it did have an impact.

I experienced it as a very nice preparation and I definitely recommend it to expectant parents

Six weeks after the birth I felt very uncomfortable in motherhood. My maternity caregiver (kraamzorg) wasn’t that great and I walked around with questions. Am I doing well? Is my son getting enough food? Why does he always want to be held? And how do I create space for myself to take a shower or go to the toilet? I heard from Marieke through a neighbor and I asked her to stay with me for two mornings.

The first time Marieke visited she watched me taking care of my son in peace. She gave me a lot of confidence by positively naming what she saw I was doing. Sometimes she gave a handy tip, but she mainly listened and watched. She also took the time to explain what a baby’s normal needs are in the first three months and how you can deal with this as a parent. She made suggestions about carrying in a sling, feeding rhythms and how you notice if your baby drinks enough.

She continuously adjusted her pace and information to what my son and I needed. In the meantime, I was able to breastfeed and I didn’t feel forced to hurry at all. We practiced putting on a sling and she also watched how I gave my son a bath.

These two visits of around 2 hours each really helped to build my confidence as a mother. Afterwards I was able to ask questions online, but that was no longer necessary for me.
