HypnoBirthing® is a tried and proven method that guides and prepares a woman and her (birth) partner in giving birth in a peaceful and extraordinarily beautiful manner. It is a program that considers the psychological, as well as the physical, well-being of the mother, her birth partner, and the newborn, independent of context, whether that be in the quiet of a home, a hospital, or a birth center. The HypnoBirthing® program is built around an educational process that includes special breathing, relaxation, visualization, meditative practice, attention to nutrition and positive body toning.

What is HypnoBirthing®?

HypnoBirthing® has been developed by Marie Mongan in America and is based on her belief that birth does not naturally have to be accompanied by serious discomfort. The focus during this pregnancy course is therefore on relaxing and trusting your body. In addition, the program contains extensive information about the natural birthing process, so that you get a realistic picture of what you can expect and how you can help your body during this natural process.

Benefits of HypnoBirthing®

Women who have attended HypnoBirthing® feel more powerful and confident in the run-up to delivery. The relaxation techniques break the Anxiety-Stress-Pain syndrome and women experience less exhaustion during the birth process. The lessons and exercises also ensure a strong bond between the woman, the child and the (birth) partner. In addition, women appear to have less need for medical interventions, such as contraction stimulation and pain relief, and reduce the risk of damage to the pelvic floor.

What is taught at the HypnoBirthing® course?

What are your expectations regarding childbirth? And what are your social circle’s expectations? What is ‘natural childbirth’? During the first lesson, we share some background information on childbirth. What are myths and what was scientifically researched? We really dive into the relation between our body and our thoughts and I will teach you how to figure out what your birth mindset is.

Even before giving birth, you can make contact with your baby. How does that work? And why is this important for the childbirth process? We will start working on helping your body relax through breathing techniques and practise a lovely massage technique that produces more endorphins, your body’s own painkiller. 

The secret to giving birth is letting go! Letting go of control over your body and negative thoughts. Through various visualisation and relaxation exercises, you can discover what the best way for you to let go is. In order to let go, you have to be able to trust your body, your (birth) partner and the healthcare provider. Letting go while still being in control of the childbirth process is also something we discuss during this lesson. 

A woman’s body is perfectly designed to give birth. We will discuss the collaboration between the muscle of the uterus, the hormones and the role of the baby when labour kicks in and how the opening phase will progress. The (birth) partner fulfils an important role during the childbirth process and it will be discussed in great detail.

It is time to welcome your baby into the world and hold him/her in your arms. What can you expect from the birthing phase, both from your body as well as your mindset? We will try out different positions that you can use during the birthing process. The baby is born: what comes next? What does your baby need to get used to his/her new environment? We will discuss how you can stimulate the bonding process with your baby and will conclude with a positive relaxation exercise

Practical information

The HypnoBirthing® course is divided into five weekly lessons of 2.5 hours each. You attend the course preferably with your (birth) partner and can choose from a group or private course or create your own group with friends. It is best to start between the 16th and 32nd week of your pregnancy.

During each lesson there is plenty of room for individual questions, I provide extensive information about the natural birth process and we will practice a lot with breathing and relaxation techniques.

The Friends group course is a unique experience to share the preparation of childbirth with friends who are expecting a child as well. Together you decide who attend the class.

Strict lockdown

Group course

A physical group course is not allowed during the strict lockdown. Therefore, all group courses will be offered ONLINE during this period.

I have now gained a lot of experience with online courses, where your preparation for the birth is central. There is no difference in the program and a big advantage is your own comfortable sofa or chair during the relaxation exercises ;).

Private course

During the strict lockdown, a private course at home is possible under strict conditions (see below). We will fine-tune this together with an eye for everyone’s health. 

National relaxation and now what?

As soon as the national relaxation goes back to the rule ‘less than 30 people inside at 1.5 meters distance’, it is allowed again to physically give a group course.

A number of strict conditions are applied:


– You or your partner have no symptoms related to corona
– You or your partner are not awaiting a test result
– You or your partner have not been in contact with a positive person
– You and your partner wear a mouth mask until you are on your chair (also during breaks or toilet visits)
– You wash your hands upon entering
– You respect the 1.5 meter distance with other participants


If someone within the group cannot meet these conditions, the entire group will be offered the course ONLINE at the agreed time.


The space I use is suitable for a maximum of 6 couples. The exercises will be done individually or together with your partner.


Let us together ensure a safe environment and report it in time if you and / or your partner cannot meet the conditions.
